Microsoft 365 Business vs Enterprise

Introduction

Microsoft 365 Business plans (Basic, Standard, Premium) cover most companies up to 300 users. Enterprise (E3, E5) adds compliance, analytics, and security depth for larger or regulated organisations. This guide explains when to stay on Business and when E3 or E5 is worth the premium — with THB and SGD pricing from our catalog.

Stay on Business when…

  • You have under 300 users and Microsoft’s Business cap still fits
  • IT needs are email, Teams, Office, basic device policies — Premium covers Intune and Defender for Business
  • Budget per seat must stay near ฿1,200–฿1,600 or S$26–S$35
  • You do not have dedicated compliance officers demanding eDiscovery, advanced audit, or Microsoft Purview suites

Business Standard remains the default for general office staff; Premium when security tooling is required.

Move to Enterprise E3 when…

  • You exceed 300 Business seats or need features Business SKUs cannot assign
  • Regulatory retention, legal hold, or audit log requirements exceed Business capabilities
  • You want Microsoft 365 E3 unified security baseline across many subsidiaries
  • Power BI Pro for many analysts is cheaper bundled in E3 than à la carte

E3 is the volume office + compliance tier — not everyone needs E5.

Move to Enterprise E5 when…

  • Security operations needs Defender for Office 365 Plan 2, Defender for Endpoint, Sentinel-class integration
  • Insider risk, advanced DLP, and automatic classification are mandatory
  • Leadership expects Phone System / advanced meeting features bundled
